The Great Fire of London, Hitler’s rise and 9/11: Which Nostradamus predictions came true?

More than 900 quatrains in his 1555 book Les Prophéties have predicted major world events over time, his supporters believe. These interpretations of his work continue to keep his legacy alive all these years later. For 2024, he predicted that King Charles II would abdicate, there would be a new pope, and that China would be involved in a war. With only days left of the year, the likelihood of these events occurring seems low – however, over the decades, many believe that Nostradamus correctly predicted several world events. Others argue that because his prophecies have a tendency to be cryptic and vague – and because they reference general events that are likely to happen throughout history – there’s a high chance there will always be one to match a landmark event. With his predictions fo...

A friend told me that these were superlative and I sighed an exhausted sigh and thought ‘how great can bath salts really be?’ Turns out, rather great; blending pink Himalayan salt, Hawaiian black lava sea salt, and Grey Celtic sea salt from the coast of Brittany, these make the entire bathroom – and the rooms beyond – smell like an expensive spa, and after a soak in them, I notice my skin is softer and muscles relaxed. Castor oil packs and a digestion elixir: the nutritionist’s post-Christmas detox plan

Christmas is all about kicking back carefree, after all nobody wants to contemplate the number of sugar cubes swirling around in a mug of mulled wine or the caloric value lurking on the average Christmas lunch plate. The festivities are all about embracing good food and joyous company, but after the big day has been and gone, the chances are the seasonal excess may have left your body crying out for a spot of extra TLC. Bloating, sluggishness and general abdominal discomfort are all common post-Christmas themes caused by the mix of rich food and drink. The liver is the body’s largest internal organ and your in-built detoxification system. As one of the most important metabolic hubs in the human body, it works around the clock to keep you healthy. From aiding digestion to converting nutrien...

Best walks in London: Pixie Lott, Sadie Frost, Emma Barnett and more reveal favourite routes in capital

When I lived in St George’s Square, Pimlico, my favourite walks were always along the River Thames. My journey would start with a coffee and daydream in Pimlico Gardens, whatever the time of day I would notice how high or low the tides were; visually measuring how close the water came up to the base of the bridges. I’d stroll past a few, first Chelsea Bridge and then onto my favourite Albert Bridge; I love that it’s painted pink instead of industrial grey. If time and the weather permits I’ll pop into Chelsea Physic Garden, one of the oldest botanic gardens in Europe to buy some seeds and walk around the meditative gardens. Directly across the river is a great view of The Peace Pagoda in Battersea Park. Then back along Chelsea embankment to Cheyne Walk to see one of my favourite sculptures...

Kate Middleton’s Christmas day outfit 2024: Every festive look the Princess of Wales has worn to Sandringham

After a tumultuous year for the princess known by many as Kate Middleton, the public waits with warm anticipation to see her stride up to the annual morning Church service at St Mary Magdalene Church, in Sandringham, Norfolk, on Christmas morning. PASince Princess of Wales first attended the service in 2011, great attention has been paid to her choice of festive outfit — which, over the years, have moved through Miu Miu plaid trench coats (2017) to Catherine Walker faux fur trimmed grey coat dresses (2019), a fashion forward, khaki-tailored Alexander McQueen look for 2022, right up to the royal blue coat dress, again by McQueen, which was paired with a statement bow and arrow hat courtesy of royal-favourite milliner Juliette Millinery, last year. She finished her outfit with sapphire and d...

Vegan? Here’s how to persuade the meat-eaters to join you this Christmas

There’s no denying that the word ‘vegan’ can be exceptionally emotive - and for good reason. The food choices we make have consequences for many of the most pressing and urgent issues facing our species: environmental collapse, antibiotic resistance, pandemic-causing infectious diseases, and, of course, the biggest driver of animal exploitation and suffering caused by human But, as well as being hugely impactful, eating food is not just about acquiring calories and nutrients. Our food choices are also symbolic and are tied to many other aspects of our lives. Food is also about pleasure, culture and traditions. It’s about socialising, creating memories, and forming friendships and relationships. It can symbolise prosperity, affluence and comfort. Fundamentally, our food choices are inextric...

I’m spending Christmas in London — here’s why you should too

A few years ago, in the run-up to Christmas, I visited New York in December. I wanted to know if I wanted to be *somewhere else* during the festive time. I saw the lights, shopped like my credit card would never get declined, wore glitzy outfits to company Christmas parties, listened to carols in St Patrick’s Cathedral and skated round Central Park, absorbing every glittering bauble Manhattan could throw at me.
