The Marbella Club: is there anyone who wouldn’t like this hotel?

The world’s first padel court was set up at the Marbella Club – a stone marks the spot – and a brand new high-quality court has recently opened, with further padel and tennis courts, and coaches, at the neighbouring Puente Romano resort. Then there are three swimming pools, all heated, a golf course 25 minutes away in the Benahavis hills, an off-site equestrian centre, water sports on the beach and group hiking tours. Oh, and a 5,000 square metre (and that’s huge) Kid’s Club of dreams for 4 to 14 year olds. Source link

It’s not all in your head: are you being gaslit?

You protested. The protestations were greeted with, ‘That’s crazy’, ‘It’s not a big deal’, ‘You’re overreacting.’ Somehow you endured. But the very fact of your survival then became woven into the rewriting of history, to confirm the minimising and denials and later repression. (‘Well, you survived, didn’t you?’, ‘It all worked out in the end’ or ‘That was just a blip.’) So, at no point during it did someone (or perhaps someone did, but not enough, or perhaps just not the people most dear to you) look at you and confirm the reality of the horror with which you were dealing. To the contrary, they said you’re crazy for being upset and over-sensitive, and any difficulty you might have was ‘all in you’. That’s what gaslighting is like. Source link

Emily English: Em the nutritionist on her book So Good, toxic diet culture and wellness fads

When she signs into our Zoom call from home, she looks the vision of health: all bouncy blow-dry, glowing skin and a big Hollywood smile. As we get to talking about the sometimes murky world of wellness (“the wellness industry is a bit of shambles right now”, she says), and how she navigates the equally turbulent culture of social media, English is straight-talking yet warm, making it easy to see how her profile has sky-rocketed. ‘My uni is complicit in Gaza — that must stop’: inside London’s student protest camps

Last week, however, following a protest one afternoon, students at Goldsmiths, University of London, in New Cross stormed their library and decided to stay overnight, laying out beanbags, and putting up slogans in the window. The next morning, MA student Danna MacRae, 24, who had not had much sleep, welcomes me into the library and explains that her group has a meeting with management about their demands that afternoon. A pile of supplies brought by friends sits on a desk nearby. Source link

The new W Sydney makes a splash on the waterfront

The vibe is, without a doubt, luxury but with an unconventional twist. Head up from the entrance and the theme, according to the hotel, is Future Noir. It makes sense given the hotel rises up between two of Sydney’s motorways. On the escalator to the third floor, electric blue lighting means you can pretend you are an extra in Blade Runner. Southern Ocean Lodge, Kangeroo Island: an eco hotel on Australia’s Galapagos

At the request of founders, James, and Hayley Baillie, the original architect of Southern Ocean, Max Pritchard returned with his team to recreate 2.0. The original Lodge, which was the flagship of luxury collective, Baillie Lodges, was devastatingly burnt to the ground in bush fires in 2020, bar a sculpture of a kangaroo which sat in the lobby. More than a decade on, Pritchard has taken the opportunity to install cutting edge technology, setting new benchmarks for environmental sustainability in the tourism industry in everything from rainwater capture to solar power. 45,000 biodiverse native plants have been propagated on-site and planted to form a natural buffer from the surrounding wilderness. And of course, there is vastly upgraded fire prevention infrastructure. Source link
