I spent a week without looking in a mirror – it was the most liberating thing I’ve ever done

“Shall we get a photo?”, one of my friends suggested. As I scrolled through the pictures afterwards, I realised that, at going on for 5pm, it was the first time I had seen what I looked like all day. Because none of the toilets – and I’m using that word loosely – had mirrors in them, and I didn’t even attempt the two-hour queue for the shower, save for a few selfies, Glastonbury was the longest I’ve ever gone in my adult life without seeing my own reflection. After meticulously planning elaborate outfits, hair and makeup for the five-day festival – and vastly overpacking – I had ended up rolling out of my tent each morning, chucking on whatever was at the top of my rucksack, throwing my hair up and getting on with the day.  Source link
Bubble skirts are the perfect late summer investment piece to add to your wardrobe

Bubble skirts are the perfect late summer investment piece to add to your wardrobe

I have a theory. Whenever you want to predict an upcoming trend, simply look to the fashion archives of the last 50 years and wait until you feel the need to proclaim “That will never come back into fashion!” Then fire up Vinted, because you’ve got next year’s fashion staple sorted. The latest piece of supporting evidence for my theory? Puffball skirts, or ‘bubble’ skirts - the kind you’d see in one of the less-coveted pictures of Princess Diana from the 1980s, a Cyndi Lauper costume, or perhaps a bad sitcom’s take on a retro prom. But now they’re looking perfectly at home on models, influencers and all-round London trendy types setting the standard for the months to come. Luckily not all bubble skirts are made equal, so as much as the mini puffballs are in fashion for these last few warme...

Dorset foodie guide: best restaurants, cafes and bakeries

Enter through a Narnia-like door, up a flight of stairs and all is calm, whitewashed and a little Nordic. This is the new digs of ex Pollen Street Social chef, Mike Naidoo, who’s a deft hand at spinning all coastal treasures (an enormous sea bass, brill, really whatever the fisherman procures), into haute, wholly delicious plates. It has earned him a well-deserved one Michelin star, and put a port town in need of a wee spruce firmly on the foodie map. Expect the usual, spanking fresh salty suspects such as Portland crab dumplings, perfectly-roasted scallops, which are meaty and moreish inside, washed down with local Langham’s wine, of course, rounded off with a light, fluffy New Forest Strawberry Baba. catchattheoldfishmarket.com Source link

Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid: Family Sports Utility Vehicle with a conscience

With the windows down, on a hot day, one disappointment is that instead of any audible evidence of the V6 engine (never as exciting as the V8, of course), there is instead that pervasive, ubiquitous electronic ‘hum’, now built routinely into electric-assisted cars, as a warning to other road users. It might well be necessary, but is also rather irritating inside the car, when you’re in electric mode. The other electric downside on a Hybrid that can also be plugged in is the need for cables, which take up valuable space in the boot, and even underneath it. You can’t win’em all. Source link

Brand Sussex in meltdown: as another aide quits, a who’s-who of Meghan and Harry’s mass exodus of staff

Browning quit ahead of Levine, and just a month after the exit of Rebecca Sananès, head of the couple’s podcast company. He had overseen the duke and duchess’ now-notorious Netflix docu-series Harry & Meghan, as well as their less successful Netflix series Live to Lead, about world leaders. “From the moment they shared their vision for Archewell as a global production company that will spotlight diverse voices and share uplifting stories, I knew I wanted to help with this unique opportunity,” Browning said when he was hired in early 2021, after reportedly being recommended for the role by a mutual contact. “It’s a thrilling company to be starting.” Source link

Who is Akeem Morris? The football player rumoured to be dating Madonna

It’s Leo season and Madonna has plenty of cause for celebration. Following her huge international tour which ran from October 2023 until May this year, the Like A Prayer singer is continuing to enjoy the limelight as her 1980’s hit has made its way back into the charts after being featured in the new Deadpool and Wolverine film. Now the global pop superstar is marking her August 16 birthday in Portofino, Italy at Dolce & Gabbana’s private estate — and has sparked dating rumours by taking a new beau. Madonna, 66, was papped with Akeem Morris, a 28-year-old football player (or soccer as they call it stateside) from Jamaica who has been featuring more and more on the singer’s Instagram. It seems the pair have known each other for a while, but it wouldn’t be a celebrity relationship withou...

And the club is strengthening its star power, too.
