Political podcasts: Have they reached their peak?

Now, no doubt partially because of the above, you cannot move for political podcasts. They’re everywhere: launching at a rate of about 2,000 a week, feeding off a never-ending Tory psychodrama more can’t-look-away compelling than anything Netflix could ever commission. Will they all survive when politics, come next year, is suddenly quite boring and everyday and Liz Truss isn’t releasing books to take the piss out of and it’s all people doing a reasonably competent job of a job that they also stay in for more than a couple of weeks? Unlikely. We are likely entering the end of this peculiar gold rush and so, with that in mind, let us enjoy these last few pre-election months… and then figure out which ones to keep following no matter what. Dior’s male grooming expert: ‘The hipster Hackney beard is dead’

On set, using Dior’s Sauvage The Cleanser, The Toner and The Serum, she proved as much. ‘We did so many different looks today — it shows you can change your look completely with your facial hair, from the rugged to that baby face-fresh look.’ She thinks Johnny Depp, famously the face of Dior’s Sauvage, ‘is great. [He has] that kind of earthy quality, but that ruggedness as well is beautiful,’ but has not cut his hair — yet. And what are her three golden rules when it comes to any man set on improving his appearance? ‘The best tip I can offer: take care of your skin, your scalp and get a good scent.’ Source link

Nadia Lee Cohen’s My London: From Trisha’s to F Cooke’s old pie and mash shop

A load of old shite that I pay a fortune to store. Name badges, ugly royal memorabilia, a wall of breeze block, a neon motel sign, some old cinema seats, a silicone sculpture of me dressed as ‘Jeff’ (a fictional character from Hello, My Name Is), old cigarette packets, mobile phones, hotel keys, TV guides, religious paraphernalia, fake food, a dry-cleaning unit — the list goes on. This is all with the intention that when I’m dead, someone will stumble upon it and have an exhibition like the one Kubrick had in London; and people will come from far and wide to marvel at my collection of ‘Old Shite’. London Landmarks Half Marathon 2024: date, route, start time, map and everything you need to know

New year, new route. For any London Landmarks returners, it’s back to a similar route to 2023 starting on Pall Mall (look out for the red London buses parked up nearby for storing bags) but with the addition of two new landmarks along the way: the Cheesegrater (Leadenhall Building) and The Scapel. The 13.1-mile winding route also passes many of the key landmarks of previous years including Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral, Nelson’s Column, the Gherkin, the Shard, the Tower of London and the London Eye. And, yes, that includes on cloudy days. As Andrea Pfeffer, founder of Pfeffer Sal, explains, "UVB rays which are responsible for burning and tanning are filtered out by clouds and windows, but UVA rays which are responsible for sun damage can still penetrate so if you’re working by a window or taking daily walks, you will still be exposed to them. This is called incidental sun exposure which we still need to protect our skin against." Source link

The one hotel in the world you would stay at again and again Hotel Esencia in Mexico. Cape Town, South Africa guide: the best luxury hotels, restaurants and bars

Next on our tour of Cape Town hotels was The Silo (rooms from R24,000 or £1,000, theroyalportfolio.com), which I can only describe as being like a luxury hotel perched on top of the Tate Modern. The Zeitz Mocca (zeitzmocaa.museum) is a contemporary African art gallery, and its location and architecture are the draw. We went to visit its Gaudi-like interior, marvelling at brilliant installations and the building itself. The windows are vast convex diamonds that look out over the V&A Waterfront to one side, and out to Lion’s Head and Seapoint on the other. We were lucky enough to stay in an eighth-floor premium suite with a huge sitting room and bathroom. While Gran painted the view, I took a long bath looking out over the city as the sun went down.
