Meta Has Announced the End of the Metaverse, and I’m a Little Sad

In a post on its community blog today, Meta announced the timeline for the shutdown of Horizon Worlds for VR users. The Horizon Worlds app and related Events will disappear from Quest headsets by March 31, and VR users will no longer be able to use the social hub at all after June 15, 2026. Horizon Worlds will continue, Meta says, but only for mobile users. “We are separating the two platforms so each can grow with greater focus, and the Horizon Worlds platform will become a mobile-only experience,” the company explained in the post. “This separation will extend across our ecosystem, including our mobile app.”Horizon Worlds launched in 2021 as a VR-only platform where users could interact in a virtual space, but it was beset by early tech and design limitations (most famously, that user's ...

Brain tumours take control of sugar metabolism to grow: Study

Immune cells within a brain tumour could be taking control of sugar metabolism, breaking down fructose to suppress immune responses and promote tumour growth, a study has found. Published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the study is the first to identify a sugar metabolism driving immune suppression in glioblastoma, an aggressive, rapidly growing malignant tumour in the brain, researchers said. They suggested blocking how fructose gets broken down in specialised immune cells may improve a patient`s response to immunotherapy and outcomes. "Across several mouse models, when we removed the fructose transporter, the tumours simply didn`t grow," senior author Jason Miska, assistant professor of neurological surgery at Northwestern University`s school of medici...

Samsung’s 32-inch Smart Monitor M9 (M90SF) is down to $1,299.99 on Amazon, a drop from $1,599.99 and its lowest price so far, according to price trackers. It is still expensive for a 32-inch display, but this is not a typical monitor. Samsung is positioning it somewhere between a premium display, a smart TV, and a casual gaming setup. PCMag rated it “excellent,” noting how well it balances work and play. The 32-inch 4K QD-OLED panel is the main draw here. Colors look rich without oversaturation, and contrast is strong enough that darker scenes don’t wash out. And with a pixel density of about 138 ppi, text looks crisp for spreadsheet...

Oscars 2026 in memoriam snubs James Van Der Beek, Malcolm-Jamal Warner and others – National

Billy Crystal remembered his best friend, Rob Reiner, in an extended and emotional in memoriam at the Oscars on Sunday, and legend Barbra Streisand honoured her friend and co-star Robert Redford by singing a snippet from their film The Way We Were. Canadian actor Rachel McAdams paid tribute to “fellow Canadian” Catherine O’Hara and her The Family Stone co-star Diane Keaton in a heartfelt speech.Although the Oscars selectively expanded certain in memoriam segments for this year’s ceremony, they still didn’t manage to accommodate everyone the entertainment industry lost between last year’s ceremony and this year’s broadcast. The in memoriam segment, honouring notable figures from the film industry who have died over the last year — held at every Academy Awards ceremony — did not include Jame...
