Two-Factor Authentication Can Fail You, but You Can Make It More Secure

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a great way to boost the security of your accounts. But even with that added layer of security, malicious actors are finding ways to break in. So-called adversary-in-the-middle attacks take advantage of weaker authentication methods to access accounts. Your two-factor and multi-factor authentication (MFA) may be weak, but, luckily, there's something you can do about it. How multi-factor authentication worksMFA uses two or more checkpoints to confirm a user's identity for accessing an account or system. This is more secure than relying on just a username and password combination, especially given how easy many passwords are to crack, and how many have found their way onto the dark web. Passwords are often basic and repeated, so once a password has been com...

This cholesterol pill may fight high risk of heart attack, stroke: Study

An international team of researchers found that a cholesterol-lowering drug may offer a more effective and convenient way to protect people at high risk of heart attack and stroke.  The study led by researchers at Monash University in Australia tested a once-daily oral medication called Obicetrapib and found it significantly lowered both LDL or bad cholesterol and lipoprotein(a), [Lp(a)] -- two key contributors to cardiovascular disease. The findings marked an important step forward for patients who have struggled to reach their cholesterol targets with current therapies, said study lead professor Stephen Nicholls, Director of Monash University`s Victorian Heart Institute. "We know that many people at high risk of heart attack or stroke don`t get their cholesterol levels low enough, eve...

Gram Chikitsalay web series review: Opposite of Insta-gram

On: Amazon Prime VideoDirector: Rahul PandeyActors: Amol Parashar, Anandeshwar Dwivedi, Vinay PathakRating: 3/5 First off, I have a soft corner for stuff set in villages. Even if Gram Chikitsalay feels like simply the first draft of that show. I also love the way all the characters refer to the doctor in this series as ‘Daak Saab’. That’s also how it shows up in the subtitles. It’s the colloquially correct pronunciation. Although the gentleman that the villagers call Daak Saab is actually a “jhola chhaap” quack. Of which there must be God knows how many in rural India. Actor Vinay Pathak plays this beloved role, doing Internet searches for symptoms/diagnoses; rather trigger-happy, doling out “booster shots” to unsuspecting patients! Pathak, as Chetak Kumar, equally gets his purbi (eas...

How to Join the Beta for the USPS ‘Informed Delivery’ App

I'm a big fan of the USPS' "Informed Delivery" option. When you enroll, the USPS will send you daily emails that show all mail and packages you're set to receive that day. (The mail scans arrive in grayscale, address-side only.) If you like to be surprised every time you open your mailbox, it's not the service for you. But for the rest of us, it's a helpful way to keep an eye on the day's incoming mail. Now, the USPS is expanding the feature, working on a dedicated Informed Delivery app. The app will send you push notifications whenever you have new mail and packages on the way, and will let you share the status of packages with other people. If you sent a friend a package, for example, you could pass along the tracking information from within the app.It seems to be a similar experience as...

Diddy trial: Judge delays jury selection due to ‘cold feet’ concerns – National

The final stage of jury selection for the sex-trafficking trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs was postponed until early next week ahead of the opening arguments over concerns that some jurors might get “cold feet” before the high-profile case begins. Prosecutors allege that Diddy, 55, used his fame and power at the top of the hip-hop world to sexually abuse women from 2004 to 2024. He pleaded not guilty after his September arrest and has remained held without bail at a federal lockup in Brooklyn.Judge Arun Subramanian granted the defence lawyers’ request to delay the last step in jury selection until Monday, May 12, when both sides will narrow down the pool of 45 potential jurors to 12 and six alternates.Subramanian expressed concern that if jurors were selected before the weekend, they could grow...

The Royals review: Whoever cast Bhumi and Ishaan together needs a raise

Netflix released its original series, The Royals, starring a talented ensemble cast. This 8-episode romantic drama set in the fictional city of Morpur in Rajasthan offers a very casual take on Indian royalty. It follows the new-age recipe of inclusivity and women empowerment, but falls flat in terms of execution.  What is Netflix’s The Royals about? The Royals follows the life of Bhumi Pednekar, a budding entrepreneur whose aim is to make royalty available for commoners through Royal B&B. She stumbles across Ishaan Khatter, a soon-to-be king, whose family is in debt after losing his father, Milind Soman. The two collaborate under unusual circumstances while suppressing their true feelings for each other. The series has several subplots to keep the viewer engaged, but they seem borrow...
