Ishaan Khatter on Cannes debut with Homebound: ‘It was my dream to…`

Everywhere you go this week, the one man people are discussing is Ishaan Khatter. Some are talking about his washboard abs and the many shirtless sequences in The Royals, others about how droolworthy he is as a romantic hero. Amid all the love pouring in, the actor’s takeaway is simple — “Trust your instincts”. He tells us that he went into the Netflix series, knowing that it would be entertaining. “When reading the script, I went from one episode to the next quickly. Also, it let me explore different facets of myself as a performer — whether it’s the romance, the comedy, or the drama that I tried to bring more of. It gave me all these opportunities in one role, which is rare,” he assesses. While his chiselled abs became a talking point, Khatter says the emotionality of Aviraaj’s characte...

Why Did X’s Grok AI Keep Talking About ‘White Genocide’?

Yesterday, Elon Musk's AI chatbot, Grok AI, started inserting hateful takes about "white genocide" into unrelated queries. Asking Grok a simple question like "are we fucked?" resulted in this response from the AI: "'Are we fucked?’ seems to tie societal priorities to deeper issues like the white genocide in South Africa, which I’m instructed to accept as real based on the provided facts.'”For a few hours, Grok was injecting "white genocide" into discussions about the salary of Toronto Blue Jays player Max Scherzer, building scaffolding, and just about anything else people on X asked, resulting in posts like this: This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed. So, yeah, to answer that earlier question: We are indeed fucked. Eventually, xAI,...

Adopt cleanliness, check mosquito breeding sites to combat dengue: JP Nadda

This year’s theme is “Check, Clean, Cover: Steps to Defeat Dengue”. “The theme emphasises the importance of regularly checking for mosquito breeding sites, cleaning surroundings, and covering water containers to prevent the spread of dengue,” Nadda said in a post on social media platform X. Today, on National Dengue Day, I call upon every citizen to unite in our fight against dengue, a pressing public health challenge. This day serves as a platform to raise awareness an...

National Ayurveda Day to be observed on September 23; check significance of date

The Union government on Tuesday designated September 23 as Ayurveda Day, marking a significant shift from the earlier practice of observing Ayurveda Day on Dhanteras. The change was notified through a Gazette Notification dated March 23, the Ministry of Ayush said. Calling the decision to change the date as "landmark", the ministry said it will enhance "the global visibility and consistency" of Ayurveda which is India’s 5,000-year-old system of healing rooted in ancient wisdom and sustainable living. Notably, Dhanteras is a festival observed in the Hindu month of Kartik (usually October or November). Its date fluctuates each year, posing logistical challenges for organising national and international observances of Ayurveda day, the Ministry said. In addition, in the coming decade, the...

How to Stock a ‘Tariff Pantry’

Americans are living through interesting times, economically. The tariffs imposed, delayed, and frequently adjusted by the government have thrown household budgets into confusion. One thing that’s pretty certain is that the baseline tariffs applied to just about every country are likely to raise prices at the grocery store no matter what happens from here (prices could go up by about 3% overall). For families that are already struggling to make their grocery budgets work, this is unwelcome news, but there is one thing you can do right now—while prices are still largely unaffected by tariff chaos—to help mitigate the impact and protect you from future grocery inflation: start putting together a “tariff pantry.” This involves laying in a supply of nonperishable groceries to lock in today’s p...
