Carney ‘disappointed’ in Trump’s 35% tariff on Canada – National

Prime Minister Mark Carney says he is “disappointed” by U.S. President Donald Trump’s imposition of a 35 per cent tariff on Canada but that even with that move, Canada still faces among the lowest average tariff rates of U.S. trading partners because of CUSMA.“While the Canadian government is disappointed by this action, we remain committed to CUSMA, which is the world’s second-largest free trade agreement by trading volume,” Carney wrote in a letter posted on X early Friday.“The U.S. application of CUSMA means that the U.S. average tariff rate on Canadian goods remains one of its lowest for all of its trading partners.”Carney cautioned that other sectors remain heavily impacted due to industry-specific tariffs, including on lumber, steel, aluminum and automobiles. Climate change could worsen diarrhoea risk in south, southeast Asia: Study

Climate change could worsen the risk of diarrhoea -- a leading cause of death among children aged under five -- across south and southeast Asia, including India, endangering the health of millions of children, according to a study. Researchers from Australia, including those from Flinders University, analysed data of more than three million children, taken from national surveys of eight Asian countries, such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. Prevalence of diarrhoea was found to be about 8 per cent among India`s under-fives. The disease is marked by passing loose, watery stools occurring more often than normal. Dehydration, malnutrition and an impaired immunity are among its risk factors. The findings, published in the journal Environmental Research, also highlight temper...

Trump raises tariffs on Canada to 35% with no trade deal in sight – National

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday that will raise his tariffs on Canada to 35 per cent starting midnight Friday, a deadline he set for a new trade deal that has failed to materialize. Trump also signed an executive order that will have new tariffs on a wide swath of U.S. trading partners to go into effect in seven days. The order keeps his “reciprocal” 10 per cent baseline tariff rate in place with higher rates for other countries that have yet to sign a new trade deal with the U.S.The White House said Trump was raising the tariff rate because Canada “has failed to cooperate in curbing the ongoing flood of fentanyl and other illicit drugs” into the U.S., as well as Canada’s retaliatory tariffs on American goods.“In response to Canada’s continued inaction and re...

How I Choose a Good Sweat-Resistant Sunscreen for My Workouts

After years of working out in the summer sun, I've become a connoisseur of sunscreens. I'll wear this stick for my face, that cream on my hands for shorter runs, this spray for long trail runs—and that's aside from slipping on a sun shirt to provide my primary upper-body protection. The exact formulation of each sunscreen matters, so let me tell you what to look for in order to be a discerning customer. Before we get into it, I want to make it clear that pretty much any sunscreen is better than no sunscreen, so don't feel like you need to delay your next workout until you have sourced the perfect product. Doctors reveal corporate stress pushing women to smoke, putting lungs at risk

As work stress mounts and deadlines pile up, nearly 20 per cent of corporate women are now resorting to smoking as a coping mechanism. They say it is time to refocus on timely diagnosis, early treatment, and lung care awareness, especially for working women navigating high-pressure careers to take utmost care of their lungs. Corporate women today juggle tight deadlines, long working hours, high expectations, work-life imbalance, career pressure; limited breaks can lead to stress.
