Anil Kapoor and Vijay Varma to star in Hansal Mehta`s business drama series

What’s Hansal Mehta’s next after Gandhi, said to be his most ambitious work to date? Murmurs over the past few months suggested that in a departure from his penchant for real-life stories, the filmmaker was set to explore a business drama (New show on the cards, Feb 21). The Netflix offering, starring Anil Kapoor and Vijay Varma, tells the story of power, money, and morals through two business rivals whose ugly clash sends shockwaves in the financial world.  Raima Sen and Neha Dhupia also feature in the Netflix series, for which Hansal Mehta has roped in an eclectic ensemble cast Last month, Mehta apparently headed to Sri Lanka for a recce for the big-budget drama that is produced by Vik...

Will AI’s job impact be dystopian or optimistic? Maybe both, experts say – National

“A white collar bloodbath” is how Dario Amodei, CEO of leading artificial intelligence firm Anthropic, recently described the impact of artificial intelligence on the labour market to American news site Axios. On May 28, he warned that the very technology his company is creating could wipe out half of all entry-level white-collar jobs within the next five years. And he’s not alone.Micha Kaufman, CEO of Fiverr, the popular online marketplace for freelance services, shared on social media a company email from April 8 that says: “AI is coming for your jobs. Heck, it’s coming for my job too. This is a wake-up call.”He goes on to say that this will affect a variety of fields and “it doesn’t matter if you are a programmer, designer, product manager, data scientist, lawyer, customer support rep, s...

Trump wants Biden’s autopen use and ‘cognitive decline’ investigated. Why? – National

U.S. President Donald Trump has directed his administration to investigate his predecessor Joe Biden’s actions as president, including whether any orders or pardons he signed with an autopen are valid amid recent reporting that has raised questions around Biden’s “cognitive decline.” The move is the boldest yet in Trump’s campaign against his political rivals and the quest by Republicans to overturn Biden’s legacy, which has been marred by growing questions about his ability to run the country that Trump is further amplifying.Trump on Thursday called Biden’s alleged use of an autopen without his knowledge “the biggest scandal” in American political history, without providing any evidence.“It’s a very bad thing, very dangerous,” Trump said in the Oval Office, arguing that, “essentially, who...

Study links early periods, later menopause to slower brain ageing in women

Women with early onset of periods, and later menopause -- which means a longer reproductive span -- can have a healthier brain ageing in life, according to a study. The study showed how a woman’s reproductive years may shape brain health later in life and also reduce the risk of dementia. It also suggested the role of oestradiol (or the lack thereof) in the development of dementia. Oestradiol levels rise at puberty, remain high during most of a woman’s reproductive life, and then decline sharply around menopause. This drop in oestradiol has been linked to an increased risk of dementia and other age-related brain conditions. “These findings support the idea that oestradiol -- the most potent and prevalent form of oestrogen during a woman’s reproductive years -- may help protect the brai...

Why an Apple TV Box Is More Private Than Your Smart TV (but Not Perfect)

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Let's be clear: smart TVs are a privacy nightmare. Almost all of them keep track of everything you watch, even when you're using an HDMI cable, and send it off to analytics firms, advertisers, and who knows who else. In capitalist America, TV watches you.A common piece of privacy advice, given this, is to disconnect your smart TV from the internet and use an Apple TV to do your streaming instead. And there is merit to this advice: Apple's streaming box collects far less private information than a standard smart TV while still providing a straightforward, remote-based user interface with support for all the major streaming services.Having said that, it's not as though Apple collects no data. And using an Apple TV means buyin...

Physical, psychological therapies together more helpful against back pain: Study

Combining physical and psychological therapies -- exercise, along with cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness -- may have more long-term effects in treating lower back pain, a study has found. Researchers from Macquarie University, Australia, reviewed results from 75 clinical trials, involving around 15,400 participants, that looked at the effects of 20 non-surgical treatments of chronic low back pain -- massage, manipulation, pain education and injections -- over a year or more. Published in The Lancet Rheumatology journal, the findings show that "cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness, exercise, and multidisciplinary care could produce the long-term benefits required to reduce the global burden due to non-specific chronic low back pain". "However, the effects are mostly sma...
