Netflix’s Operation Safed Sagar takes viewers back to the summer of 1999, when the Kargil War pushed the Indian armed forces into one of their most demanding military campaigns. Told through the Indian Air Force’s Golden Arrows squadron, the six-episode series attempts to bring the men behind the fighter jets into focus while recreating the high-altitude missions that became crucial to India’s counteroffensive.
Created by Abhijeet Singh Parmar and Kushal Srivastava and directed by Oni Sen, the series follows a group of young pilots as they prepare for a conflict they initially do not fully understand. At the centre are Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja (Siddharth) and senior officer B S Dhanoa (Jimmy Shergill), who guide a younger generation of pilots including Rajpal Singh Dhaliwal (Abhay Verma) and Bal Reddy (Mihir Ahuja). Their personal equations give the show a human layer before the war takes over.
