Nearly 46 per cent of cardiac investigations conducted among men aged 30 years and above in Delhi-NCR over the last six months showed abnormal findings, highlighting a significant burden of undetected cardiovascular risks, according to an analysis.
The analysis, released by Mahajan Imaging and Labs, was based on nearly 78,000 diagnostic investigations across cardiology, pathology and radiology services and identified more than 13,000 abnormal or critical findings among men in the region.
According to the findings, 46 per cent of cardiac investigations reported abnormalities, while 27 per cent of chest X-rays showed abnormal findings. About two per cent of pathology investigations yielded critical results requiring immediate medical attention.
The review found that 24,951 cardiac investigations were conducted during the six-month period. Electrocardiograms (ECG) accounted for 50 per cent of the tests, followed by echocardiography (38 per cent), treadmill tests (seven per cent) and combined TMT-ECHO evaluations (five per cent).
Men aged 50 years and above accounted for 57 per cent of the cardiac investigations, followed by those in the 30-40 years age group (25 per cent) and the 40-50 years category (18 per cent).
The positivity rate increased with age, rising from 11 per cent among men aged 30-40 years to 15 per cent in the 40-50 years group and 20 per cent among those aged 50 years and above.
Dr Harsh Mahajan, founder and chairman of Mahajan Imaging and Labs, said many conditions such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, fatty liver disease and kidney disorders often remain undiagnosed because they may not cause noticeable symptoms in their early stages.
The analysis included tests such as fasting blood sugar, HbA1c, lipid profile, liver and kidney function tests, thyroid profile, vitamin D and B12 assessments, along with cardiac evaluations including ECG, echocardiography, treadmill tests, coronary calcium score and carotid intima-media thickness examinations.
Health experts said long working hours, chronic stress, inadequate sleep, physical inactivity and unhealthy dietary habits are contributing to a growing risk of cardiovascular and metabolic disorders among men, underscoring the need for regular preventive health check-ups.
