Netflix has released the final trailer for the final episode of the final season of Stranger Things. The battle for Hawkins is far from over. Eleven and her friends prepare to face Vecna one last time as he unleashes the wrath of two worlds colliding on Hawkins.
Titled `The Rightside Up,` the finale is the eighth episode in the show`s fifth and final season. Netflix released the first four episodes of Season 5 on Thanksgiving Day as Volume 1 and then the subsequent three episodes on Christmas as Volume 2.
Stranger Things finale trailer out
The official synopsis for the finale episode reads, “Stranger Things finale trailer out: Prepare for a final battle as worlds collide.”
The trailer has left fans feeling nostalgic, as it begins with flashbacks of all the adventures that Eleven and her friends have had over the last five seasons.
The focus shifts to an emotional Jim Hopper, who, in a voiceover, inspires Eleven to fight one last time, for the sake of her friends, the world, and for the days that await them after all of this is over. This sets the tone for a showdown driven as much by emotion as spectacle.
A clip shows the group entering the Hawkins lab inside the eerie and dark Upside Down, and the subsequent attacks they face as they try to rescue Holly and the other children. Eleven enters Vecna’s mind to kill him, and possibly score some of the deaths. A clip of Dustin crying and looking distraught while being pulled away by a soldier has given rise to speculation about Steve`s death, since they share the closest bond in the show.
The final line of the trailer is “Let’s end this, Kid,” spoken by Hopper to Eleven, hinting at the epic battle between Vecna and all the characters of the show.
The finale picks up from where Volume 2 concluded, where Max (Sadie Sink) reveals Vecna`s plan to merge the world with a parallel dimension on the other side of the Upside Down. Vecna, disguised as Henry Creel, makes his victims join hands in a spellbinding seance as they are transported to the Abyss.
Who dies in the finale?
So far in the series, none of the main characters have died. However, the finale trailer hints at the possibility of Steve and Hopper dying.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Duffer, one of the creators of the show, tentatively refuted the possibility. He explained that the team did not want to introduce a twist just for the sake of shocking or disturbing fans, comparing it to the Red Wedding in Game of Thrones` season 3 finale.
“It’s not Game of Thrones. It’s just a very different type of show than that. There’s not going to be a Red Wedding situation. I think some things happen in the finale that are very surprising, but we’re not trying to shock or upset anyone. I hope by the time people get to the end of the finale that it just feels like there’s something inevitable about what happens, and that it doesn’t feel painful but feels satisfying. We’ll see.”
Touching upon Steve`s fate briefly, he added, “But as for Steve’s fate. I don’t know. I can’t say. It would be the next logical step. He keeps getting beaten up more and more. The only way we could take it further is death.”
The final episode will stream at 8 p.m. ET on Netflix on New Year`s Eve, Wednesday, December 31. The final episode has been slightly extended and will now run for two hours and eight minutes, up from the previously announced two hours and five minutes.
