Donald Trump set to address supporters in Florida

The Trump family have begun to arrive at the watch party in Florida. Media are reporting that Donald Trump Jr is shaking hands with supporters and pumping fists. It is unclear what time he will begin speaking, but RNZ plans to livestream his speech. Kamala Harris is not expected to speak tonight. This comes after a successful night for the Trump campaign. Harris is hoping to become the first woman elected president, while Trump is vying to become only the second former president to win a non-consecutive second term. Remember the winning candidate must earn at least 270 votes in the Electoral College to move into the White House. US election live: Polls in pivotal states close as results come in

Polls will begin closing in the US election in the next few hours. It may be some time before the final result is known but initial results will start trickling in from midday. Earlier there were queues, hoax bomb threats - believed to be from Russian sources - at polling stations, a ballot-scanning glitch in one county, and forecast storm for part of th country. Opinion polls show the candidates running neck and neck in each of the seven states likely to determine the winner. In those key states polls close by 4pm; Pennsylvania (2pm), Wisconsin (3pm), Michigan (2pm), Georgia (1pm), North Carolina (1.30pm), Arizona (3pm), and Nevada (4pm).
