Paramount+ Legal Crime Thriller Is A ’90s Standout With Tons Of Stars

Unlike most legal dramas which focus on high-powered attorneys and legal procedure, The Rainmaker has a much more grim and gritty feel. Bruiser is unapologetically sleazy with his legal practices, and Rudy is involved in covering up the murder of an abusive husband. Even the movie’s court scenes are far from predictable, with a judge’s sudden mid-trial heart attack being a pivotal plot point.  Part of what makes The Rainmaker such a noteworthy movie is the incredible talent assembled to make it. The cast includes Matt Damon, Danny DeVito, Claire Danes, Jon Voight, Dean Stockwell, Virginia Madsen, Mickey Rourke, Roy Scheider, and Danny Glover. It was also written and directed by legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, best known as the director of The Godfather.  Source link

Netflix 90s Magical Anime Reboot Is Better Than The Original

Of course, Sailor Moon Crystal had to correct the worst sin of the original anime, and that’s finally, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune are shown on-screen as a couple. As a young anime fan in the 90s, one of the first things you learned as a rite of passage is that Sven in Voltron was brutally killed in the original anime, and not “sent to a hospital upstate to recover,” but the second thing we all learned, is that Uranus and Neptune were sanitized to be “close friends” instead of a couple. To say that the reboot is an improvement is an understatement. Their relationship wasn’t just for attention at the time; it was a major part of the story, and now it can be shown as originally intended without artistic compromises. Oh, and Venus gets her sword in Sailor Moon Crystal. Source link...

24 Movie In Development But There’s A Big Catch

Kiefer Sutherland portrayed Jack Bauer, whose usual missions mostly came down to running around LA and preventing various terrorist threats, such as nuclear explosions, from happening. Each of the series’ seasons depicts 24 hours in real-time, with each of 24 episodes depicting one hour of the previously mentioned 24. Considering the format, we’re really curious as to how the upcoming 24 movie is going to adapt the series narrative without losing detail, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves with too much speculation. In The Remarried Empress, Navier is an empress. She grew up alongside Emperor Sovieshu since she was a child, and they’d spent most of their lives working to improve the empire and planning what they would do. The two always got along well, like best friends, though Navier was never able to conceive a child for him. Still, she is content with being the ruler alongside her childhood friend. However, one day, her husband brings home a mistress and demands a divorce from Navier. The Thriller Series On Hulu Officially Recut Into A Movie

The Stranger tells the story of a rideshare driver named Claire as she picks up a man late at night during her shift. She’s new to the area and eager to make some money. What she doesn’t realize is that her passenger, Carl, has been targeting her and will now take her on one of the most terrifying 12-hour fights for survival ever. If you feel you’ve somehow watched this movie despite it coming out this year, you might just be right. Interestingly, The Strangers was originally a series of 13 short episodes on Quibi in 2020 before the streaming service was absorbed by Roku. Quibi had one nice feature going for it, which is that after two years, the original creators of media on the platform were allowed to retain ownership of their work, which allowed The Stranger to be recut into a movie. ...

Season 2 Of Beloved Comedy Series Reboot Is Counting On Nostalgia

I approve of the Frasier reboot incorporating more characters from the original show, but making that nostalgia the basis for all of Season 2’s marketing feels like a trap. The marketing has worked on me, I’ll be tuning in to the new episodes largely to see beloved characters again, and even to see the return to Seattle. However, I also think that it’s likely I’ll once again be disappointed by the show.  This illustrates the problem with nostalgia-based properties like the Frasier reboot Season 2; they don’t have to try very hard. With a built-in audience, these properties can ignore deep flaws as long as they appeal to the nostalgic fanbase with cameos and references. It’s not inherently a problem to appeal to the original, but when it’s used as a crutch to prop up an otherwise unremarkab...

Netflix Keeps Beating Expectations As Streaming #1

With that being said, streaming continues to become more popular, and other companies seem to be jealous of Netflix’s streaming success, with recent reports that Disney CEO Bob Iger has been sitting in on streaming meetings to help improve the Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ services. Netflix’s recent successes are certainly undeniable, and it’s hard to see things slowing down anytime soon, especially as the service continues to bring in tons of people to check out popular shows like Bridgerton, The Umbrella Academy, and upcoming seasons of Stranger Things and Squid Game. For the time being, Netflix seems to be winning, and Wall Street agrees. Source link

John Wick Spinoff Test Screening Called Franchise Killer

This test screening for Ballerina isn’t the first hurdle that the John Wick spin-off has faced, as the film was already delayed a year. The original release date was supposed to be early last month, but it ended up needing reshoots, and Chad Stahelski, who directed all four films in the mainline franchise, came in to oversee its production. Reports said Stahelski also oversaw the reshoots and shadowed Ballerina director Len Wiseman for the additional action sequences that were needed. Another strange report about the Ballerina reshoots was that David Castaneda and Sharon Duncan-Brewster were added to the cast of the John Wick spin-off. While their casting isn’t strange on its face, it is unusual to bring on new characters when they didn’t exist in the original script. It seems like, along ...

Netflix Comedy Finds Humor In The Last Place You Expect

While Piper may be the primary point of focus in Orange is the New Black’s early episodes, her struggles are made all the more apparent as prison life is explored through the series’ ever-expanding ensemble cast, and her relationship with each unique character, each boasting their own unique set of idiosyncrasies. Inmates like Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren (Uzo Aduba), Cynthia “Black Cindy” Hayes (Adrienne C. Moore), and Poussey Washington (Samira Wiley), add equal parts dramatic tension and comic relief through their various exploits as they interact in the mess hall, and during their various work assignments. But what truly makes Orange is the New Black a worthy entry in the catalog of Netflix originals is the dynamic between the prisoners and their captors. The series’ entire fifth seaso...
