Along with following Shinji, NERV, and the other EVA pilots’ battles against the Angels, Neon Genesis Evangelion can also be a very contemplative show, often giving us insights into the psyches of the pilots and the interpersonal lives of the staff at NERV. There’s also a genuinely engrossing mystery about the Angels, the Evangelions, and the plans of Gendo Ikari, Shinji’s father and the director of NERV. And despite there only being 26 episodes of the series, you get to know these complex characters more than many shows that have double-digit seasons to tell their stories.  Source link

Obviously, Star Trek: Discovery has plenty more overt references to The Next Generation in its final season, going so far as to include multiple references to Captain Picard and even providing an appearance from Geordi LaForge’s VISOR. However, for my latinum, nothing beats “Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad” from being the ultimate homage to TNG…specifically, to three of that show’s finest episodes. Unfortunately, this was the only comedic episode of early Discovery, making the rest of the season feel like we were stuck in our own time loop of endlessly bleak NuTrek storytelling. Source link

Trying to explain the plot of Lexx is impossible, and doing so might get you committed, as you’d have to explain how the universe is under the control of His Divine Shadow, a seemingly immortal evil being, but that’s enough, as he wants to subjugate the neighboring universe, the Dark Universe as well. Within the first made-for-tv movie (four of which comprise the first season), we’re introduced to a ragtag crew of misfits and the strong, brave, and heroic revolutionary Oratal-B heretic leader Thodin (played by Barry Bostwick). Then, the typical sci-fi hero, Thodin, is killed off, and we realize that the lazy, traitorous courier and an escaped love slave are our main characters. Source link

The Boys ending things with a movie is an exciting idea in theory, but the fact that creator Eric Kripke seems hesitant about the whole thing does make it seem even less likely. Adding to the risk factor is the fact that the film would absolutely need to be as Rated-R as the rest of the series, making it an even less appealing pitch to the studio execs at Amazon. Of course, fans of the series would likely be buying tickets, but would that be enough to justify a big movie budget, marketing, and a theatrical release? Source link

Apparently, Saru got the lion’s share of nicknames from Wilson. In addition to this Star Trek: Discovery guest star calling the alien “Avatar,” he called him “Lurch,” in reference to the tall butler from The Addams Family. He also nicknamed him “Stilts” as a more generic reference to Doug Jones being incredibly tall, a trait which has helped him specialize in playing lanky aliens and monsters throughout his storied Hollywood history. Sadly, none of Wilson’s specific nicknames made it into the final cut of the episode, likely because the Star Trek: Discovery producers feared a lawsuit from James Cameron over the reference to his own sci-fi franchise. In short, Netflix’s offer could be just the shot in the arm that Kevin Costner’s Horizon needs if he actually wants to complete the thing. If you’re interested in checking out Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, you can still catch it in theaters and a digital release is likely on the way soon. The Long Game premiered at South by Southwest on March 12, 2023, which was later followed by its theatrical release under Mucho Mas Media on April 12, 2024. Generally, the reviews were pretty positive, on Rotten Tomatoes it received a critics score of 86 percent and an audience score of 97 percent. The women meet, chat, laugh, disagree, argue, and make up. They are, at their heart, all basically good people, but they all also have a dark side that is peeled back in layers with each moment that goes by. Afro Samurai was written and illustrated by Takashi Okazaki, and if you haven’t seen the manga or series before, there’s a good chance you still know his work, as he was a designer for Batman Ninja, the anime Ninja Kumai and “The Duel” episode of Star Wars Visions. He has a very distinct style that’s, as he’s explained, heavily influenced by soul food and hip-hop. I’ll admit, the series, which only runs for five episodes, doesn’t break any new ground, but what it does do is take the standard tropes and story beats and present them in a slick package. When Cody is made aware of a black-market computer ring that’s selling US technology to the Russians in Malibu Express, he gets to work, but only after hooking up with his new attractive neighbors who need to use his shower because they haven’t yet hooked up the water in their own houseboat. Playing out like an R-rated erotic telenovela, this action-comedy wastes no time jamming as much raunchy dialogue into the premise as humanly possible before getting into any actual police work.
