During our boat trip, Shashamane detoured to Paradise Beach Hotel so we could taste ‘the best roti on the island’: shrimps wrapped in elastic dough and swimming in a turmeric curry sauce that stained our fingertips. Back at Sugar Beach, the Jalousie Grill quickly became my favourite spot, where we feasted on grilled tandoori king fish and garlic lobster with our toes dipped in the sand. Otherwise, we ran the gamut from casual to fancy, ordering ceviches and salads to our front row beach loungers, and tasting the best cuts of steaks on the terrace of Saltwood, the hotel’s most elegant restaurant. Kristian the founder, an ex-broker and tennis coach, says he wants his club to become the Soho House of padel clubs, and so far he’s going the right way about it. The west London club sits right next to The Prince pub in the heart of Earls Court’s snazzy new wellness hub Empress Place, and there is an ice bath pop-up opening next door this summer. While we can assume it was coincidence, the second-youngest member of the Beckham junior brigade (joining Brooklyn, Romeo and Harper Seven) flaunted about Perfect magazine’s London Fashion Week party looking every inch his dad in the 90s — bright shirt, wide collar, chain and suit. As for Dior’s front row at the castle, their autumn winter 2024 collection shown in Paris in February attracted the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Nataltie Portman and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo onto the front row. Whether we will have a K-pop sighting in Scotland remains to be seen — as for the A-list Scottish set, actors Tilda Swinton, Ewan McGregor and James McAvoy would all make for starry extras. I’ve never been what you might call a man’s man. I mean, look at me. Do I look like I know my way around a toolbox? (That’s not a euphemism.) I’ve never been a five-aside, beers-with-the-lads kind of guy. Basically, I’m not an alpha silverback, by which I mean I don’t wear a watch, I don’t think The Italian Job or Bullitt are cinematic masterpieces (I don’t even drive) and — I was shocked to realise this week — I’ve never been on a stag do.
