What it’s like to detox at the Soho Farmhouse of Milan

Thankfully, there isn’t. I found this out on day two, after a lifestyle biomarkers meeting, bio-energetic checkup and medical consultation. This involves a blood test, a conversation about your typical diet and a test to see which of your “energy centres” are experiencing stress. I was dubious of this chakra-esque element, but the Chenot professional did correctly identify my liver and feet as being under stress, which was wholly correct. What was even more interesting, though, was the result of my blood and medical tests: I’m vitamin B and C deficient, which explains all the sickness, as well as under hydrated and oversaturated with salt (I replied to the doctor, “That is because I love salt.”) But, on the plus side, I apparently have the metabolism of a 23-year-old. Huzzah! Source lin...

How summer 2024 became the season of the fashion sock

But with a world of sock styles and colours to choose from, and likely a whole selection ready-made in your own sock drawer, which is the type to pick? “I’ve been seeing girls wearing red socks everywhere,” says Stothert, “and I love those especially because I think they just feel really preppy. It reminds me of really dapper men at fashion week, especially at Pitti Oumo. It feels almost like a reference to funky men’s tailoring. They go with everything — brown shoes, red shoes, white shoes, black shoes, everything.” Source link

The best villas to book in Europe — with sensational pools

Long afternoons flicking through the sun-cracked pages of a novel, poolside; al fresco dinners rustled together from local market jaunts; endless games of cards into the still evening, always to a lazy cicada chorus. There is nothing quite like a Mediterranean summer holiday, when you forget what day it is and while away hours on a sun lounger or on morning ambles for fresh bread. It recalls the delicious boredom of childhood – one technology cruelly wrenched from us – where the crunch of brittle grass underfoot is observed and the eye is afforded time to trace the outline of the hills and soak in the surrounding bucolic oomph. Sleek, otter-like bodies surge from pools and flop onto warm towels, and along the coast, friends nurse gin and tonics with tight, sun-kissed skin as the water in t...

Best massage guns 2024 for percussive therapy at home

Whether you’re tight because you’ve been caning the gym since it reopened, or are simply still suffering from ongoing WFH aches and pains - a massage gun is a game-changing investment that will serve a purpose way beyond post-pandemic life.Massage vibration devices deliver percussive therapy by way of short pulses of pressure to the soft tissue. While they initially launched as a saviour to your DOMS (delayed-onset muscle soreness) after a hefty HIIT sesh, many now use one daily as part of their self-care regime. What are the benefits of percussive therapy?  “The overarching use is often focused on recovery, but applications can also be seen in preparing the body for movement, sport or exercise, and for daily self-care,” says Steve Powell, director of education at Power Plate UK. “Benefit...

28 men’s style rules for summer 2024: from holiday to London Fields

It’s easy for men to get summer style wrong — should you wear shorts in the office? Can you look smart and not overheat? How can you pull off a lively, summer shirt? Here, we’ve put together dos and don’ts to help boys get through every compromising situation they could find themselves in during the hotter months: from the pub to the beach, via London Fields. (Some starters: dress up, slide into loafers, lean into preppy and be sure to give invisible socks a hard pass). How to dress on holiday: SMR DaysDo: Be brave, try matching your top and bottoms Don’t write off co-ords for men altogether. Best sleep retreats and packages in London

Now, onto the sleep package: when you enter your room, there’s a kit containing a headset, a dream journal, a lucid dreaming guide, and LabTonica’s Unplugged range. The idea behind the headset is to take you on an AI-driven journey designed to allow lucid dreaming, effectively like zoning out with images morphing before your eyes, your mind becomes buttery and soft as you ‘sleep’ — but lucidly, i.e. you are in control of your body and can command what’s happening while drifting. Dream expert Charlie Morley says it, “helps people reduce stress and enhance their emotional processing, as well as improving their quality of sleep and sleep pattern.” I found the set up innovative and surprisingly effective, feeling inspired and rested the following day. Gucci gets into its new groove at Tate Modern London show

He pitched his more modern approach deep in the Tanks of the Tate, which had been decorated with a cacophony of greenery bursting out of the ceiling, floor and across pillars (styled from 10,000 plants which will be donated to local community projects) offering a kind of juxtaposition which he underscored in the collection itself - a study in the unexpected style non-rules London is synonymous with. Gritty meets pretty if you will, or as De Sarno puts it, “Fashion design is a means to study, explore, interpret. After having expressed my ideas of desirability and sensuality, this is another piece of me, more romantic, more contradictory. I like taking something that we think we know and breaking away from its rules, taking it as far as it can go, without ever distorting it. Bringing it towa...

Gucci showing in London is great — I wish British fashion brands Beckham, Westwood, McQueen and McCartney would too

Gucci showing here is all good and glossy PR for this city, but it does highlight something rather awkward for our homegrown style stars. Aside from Burberry, none of our other major British brands show in London any more. For its 40th anniversary London Fashion Week didn’t have Vivienne Westwood (now helmed by the late designer’s husband Andreas Kronthaler), Paul Smith, Alexander McQueen, Victoria Beckham or Stella McCartney, who have all decamped to Paris for its haute glitz and high-fashion positioning. Gucci has come here for cultural grit and cool; all our lot want is European polish (and customers). Source link
