Photo: Chris Jackson / POOL / AFP Australia's six state premiers have stated they will not be attending King Charles reception in the capital, Canberra, when he arrives next week. The move has been labelled an "insult" and disrespectful by pro-monarchy group, Australian Monarchists League, as the debate around the country becoming a republic is reignited. When the 75-year-old ascended the throne after his mother's death in 2022, republic supporters in Commonwealth countries began to question their future under the monarchy. Last week, Buckingham Palace responded to the Australian Republic Move...

Public servants’ union wants Parliament to investigate return-to-office mandate – National

One of the unions representing Canada’s public servants is calling on Parliament to investigate the decision behind the three-day return-to-office mandate which took effect last month. The Canadian Association of Professional Employees (CAPE), which represents more than 25,000 members, wants the standing committee on government operations and estimates (OGGO) to investigate what it calls the “catastrophic failures” surrounding the policy.“We’ve seen over and over again just a complete unwillingness to provide any data or provide any backing for the decisions of the employer,” Nathan Prier, president of CAPE, told Global News on Monday.“We’ve lost confidence in senior management across the board here because they’re clearly not able to handle themselves. We don’t know who they’re serving, b...

Is the music industry finally having its #MeToo moment? It sure looks like it. But why now? – National

Another week, another series of sexual assault-related bombshells from the world of music. First, Diddy. The firehose of stories about Sean (Diddy) Combs and his “freak off parties” involve everything from alleged sexual assault and sex trafficking to kidnapping, weapons charges, drug use and arson. The memes involving the more than 1,000 bottles of lube and baby oil (allegedly laced with the party drug GHB) are everywhere, as are those featuring Los Angeles police standing next to a seized barrel filled with 750 dildos.Every day brings more reporting on the A-listers some speculate may have been involved, what some have alleged to have done, the payoffs and cover-ups, the conspiracy theories, and the allegations brought forth by more than 100 complainants. ...

Fed Governor Waller sees need for ‘more caution’ ahead when lowering interest rates

Christopher Waller, a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, during a Fed Listens event in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 23, 2022.Al Drago | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesFederal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller on Monday signaled that future interest rate cuts will be less aggressive than the big move in September as he expressed concern that the economy could still be running at a hotter-than-desired pace.Citing recent reports on employment, inflation, gross domestic product and income, the policymaker indicated that "the data is signaling that the economy may not be slowing as much as desired.""While we do not want to overreact to this data or look through it, I view the totality of the data as saying monetary policy should proceed with more caution on the pace of rate cuts than wa...

Jabalia has been the focus of an Israeli offensive for around 10 days and the military has now encircled the camp and sent tanks into nearby Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun towns, with the declared aim of stamping out Hamas fighters who are trying to regroup there. As the operation has continued, people in Jabalia, home to one of eight historic refugee camps in the Gaza Str...

A guide to when and how to change your therapist

The spotlight turns to the essential yet often overlooked aspect of the therapeutic journey: finding the right therapist. While therapy is a cornerstone of mental well-being, a successful therapeutic relationship is paramount for progress. “While all kinds of therapists are ultimately looking to help, therapeutic relationship can be hampered if you just don’t feel comfortable with their approach. For example, a lot of therapists use silence as a tool, but if they’re not using it in a way that feels okay for you, it may not be a good fit,” shares Divya Tiwari, clinical psychologist and head of therapy at MindPeers. Recognising the signs of a mismatched therapeutic connection and making the decision to change therapists can be daunting, but it`s a crucial step towards optimal mental health,...

Morgan Stanley sees stabilizing economy boosting cyclical stocks

Even as focus turns to the upcoming presidential election, Morgan Stanley thinks the business cycle will matter more for stock picking. The recent rise in yields following optimistic economic data, including last week's wholesale inflation report, could indicate that the bond market is beginning to part with some of the growth concerns on the hope that the economy is on stable footing, equity strategist Michael Wilson wrote in a research note Monday. He added that this trend provides greater confidence in cyclical stocks, which are positively correlated to upward moves in the 10-year Treasury yield. Wilson expects both rates and economic data to support cyclical stocks. The group should also benefit from a rebound in capital market activity, an improved lending environment and a pickup in ...
