Russia fines Google more than world’s entire GDP for blocking YouTube accounts | World News

Google has reportedly racked up a fine of more than two undecillion rubles - two followed by 36 zeros - after it removed state-run and pro-government accounts from YouTube.Put another way, an undecillion is a trillion times a trillion times a trillion. The mind-boggling amount has grown because Google hasn't restored YouTube accounts belonging to 17 Russian TV channels, according to Russia's R...

China ‘pre-positioning’ in U.S. networks for a potential conflict: Canadian agency – National

Beijing-linked hackers are “very likely” finding their way into U.S. critical infrastructure networks to “pre-position” for a potential conflict with America, according to Canada’s cyber intelligence agency. The Communications Security Establishment (CSE) said the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is likely integrating cyber operations into its military planning “to gain an advantage … in the event of a major crisis or conflict with the U.S.” The “pre-positioning” refers to gaining access to networks in order to exploit them if the need arises.Because of Canada’s connection to critical infrastructure networks in the U.S. — such as the transportation, energy and telecommunications sectors — CSE warned in their annual cyber threat report that the alleged compromises are a threat to Canada, to...

Most people unaware obesity can raise 20 pct lifetime risk of pancreatic cancer

Even as pancreatic cancer rates are rising among people under age 50, a new study on Wednesday showed that most people are unaware that obesity can increase the lifetime risk of pancreatic cancer by 20 per cent.  The study, led by researchers from the Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center, showed that most people continue to believe that pancreatic disease affects only the elderly – and that there is nothing they can do to reduce their risk. “Pancreatic cancer rates, however, have been rising by about 1 per cent annually, and we are seeing this disease in people who are in their 40s much more regularly. This is a concerning trend, and one for which research is needed to learn why,” said Zobeida Cruz-Monserrate, from the varsity. For the study, the team surveyed from October 4 – ...
