Photo: TANNEN MAURY / AFP By Chris Isidore, CNN President-elect Donald Trump is vowing to protect American-made cars through steep tariffs on imports. The problem is, there is no such thing as an all-American car. Trump has promised that tariffs, which are a tax on goods that are imported from another country, will be a key part of his economic plan in his second term. On Monday he announced plans to impose a 25% tariff on all goods coming from Mexico or Canada on his first day in office. The US government tracks what percentage of each car's parts is made "domestically." But under current trade law, both Canadian-made parts and US-made part...

Is there a link between depression and menstrual pain? Study finds out

Women suffering from depression are more likely to experience menstrual pain (also known as dysmenorrhea), finds a study on Wednesday. Previous research has shown women are twice as likely as men to suffer from depression and often experience more severe physical symptoms. While the links between mental health and reproductive health have been found, the associations have remained underexplored. To decode this, researchers from China and the UK led a study where they analysed genetic variation and identified specific genes that may be responsible for the effect of depression on menstrual pain. "Our findings provide preliminary evidence that depression may be a cause, rather than a consequence, of dysmenorrhea," said lead author Shuhe Liu, a doctoral student at Xi`an Jiaotong-Liverpool-U...

Camp Century: Abandoned Cold War ‘city under the ice’ rediscovered by NASA | Science, Climate & Tech News

NASA scientists have rediscovered a long-lost "city" buried under 100ft of ice, 58 years after it was abandoned as a US base during the Cold War.Camp Century, built in 1959 in northwest Greenland, was a never-completed secret launch site for ballistic missiles to reach the Soviet Union. As ice began to crush the site, the US abandoned the project and left the camp - which could have expanded to 33 bases - to be slowly lost to the elements. That's until NASA scientist Chad Greene, helped by agency expert Alex Gardner, flew over Greenland in April this year to map ice sheets and estimate future sea level rise."We were looking for the bed of the ice and out pops Camp Century," said Mr Gardner, describing how their radar-detecting structures appeared to align with tunnels built in the base. "We...

That particular kind of hair, that bindi, the saree. I loved her anyway. I probably read a few of her poems. First of all, we haven`t seen her being represented at all in any of the historicals that we`ve see...

In a series of now deleted Google Reviews obtained by the ABC, backpackers warned about the unfolding disaster at the Nana Backpacker Hostel in Vang Vieng - where at least five of the six people to have died from suspected methanol poisoning were staying. Eight members of hostel staff had now been detained. The reviews were sometimes met with claims of 'slander' and subsequently deleted. In an interview with the ABC last week, owner Duong van Huan denied the poisoned drinks came from his bar...
