Can eating chocolate reduce diabetes risk? Study answers

Eating five servings of dark chocolate, and not the milk one, a week may help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, according to a long-term US study. Published in the BMJ, the researchers also found that increased consumption of milk, but not dark, chocolate was associated with long-term weight gain. Chocolate contains high levels of flavanols (a natural compound found in fruits and vegetables) which have been shown to promote heart health and reduce the risk of diabetes. But the link between chocolate consumption and risk of type 2 diabetes remains controversial due to inconsistent results. In addition, most previous studies have not looked at whether eating dark and milk chocolate – which have different cocoa, milk and sugar content – might have different impacts on the risk of type 2...

How Paris fell silent when Notre-Dame went up in flames | World News

Psychologists call it a flashbulb memory, a moment in time remembered vividly seared into the consciousness. For millions of French the events of 15 April 2019 will be recalled forever like yesterday. On the banks of the Seine that evening we filmed the Notre-Dame on fire as thousands of Parisians stood shoulder to shoulder in hushed silence. That memory is as vivid as the moment the great spire of the cathedral came crashing down, plummeting in flames through the roof of the building as hundreds of horrified onlookers gasped."We have come to stand in solidarity with an old friend," one man told me that evening in tears, his young child on his shoulders. There were so many people out doing the same and the atmosphere was deeply moving. There was a deeply sad, reverential quiet as the entire ...

Sudhir Mishra: ‘Women filmmakers are much better than the men’

There are no pre-release jitters for Sudhir Mishra as the second season of Tanaav drops today. The director is confident of the thriller—an adaptation of the popular Israeli show, Fauda—that is set in Kashmir. To tell a story involving Kashmir politics, he has a fundamental approach. “Luckily, I know my country. I am inquisitive, I travel and meet people not just for the sake of making something, but for its own sake. Also, I follow the craft of filmmaking, which means every character should be nuanced. I listen to the characters, and people of Kashmir. I don’t sensationalise. I am not coming into it with any agenda. Neither is there a need to create a jingoistic piece in order for it to become a hit,” he says.  Manav Vij in Tanaav Over the past few years, there has been a surge in polit...
