Inside Helena Christensen’s beauty routine

In the morning, I get up and tiptoe for a bitIt’s good to use that muscle group like that. I then wash my face. After I’ve taken my miniature Australian shepherd dog Kumar for a walk, I have a coffee then porridge, which I make with oat milk, cinnamon and maybe some pomegranate, banana and apple. After that, I usually try to do some work on my phone but rarely on computer; I’m not really a computer person (which is why I have 9,000 emails waiting to be opened).I start each day, especially during the winter, with a shallow bathI only fill it a third and add oils and sit in it rather than immersing myself, using a natural sponge to squeeze water over my body.I’m an accidental supermodelI was hesitant at the beginning; I didn’t want to be a model, it didn’t suit my personality to pose in fron...

She took a DNA test for fun – police used it to charge her grandmother with murder in a cold case

By Taylor Galgano, CNN Jenna Gerwatowski, left, says the case was always a big mystery in her town. She had no idea the grandmother she'd never met, Nancy Gerwatowski, right, could be behind it. Photo: CNN / Jenna Rose Gerwatowski/Mackinac County Sheriff's Office It was the middle of Jenna Gerwatowski's workday at the local flower shop in Newberry, Michigan, when she got a call from an unknown number. The now 23-year-old doesn't usually answer unknown calls, but says she decided to pick this one up in May 2022. To her surprise, it was a detective from the Michigan state police. "He was like, 'Have you heard of the Baby Garnet case?'" Jenna told CNN. Jenna had heard of it. In 1997, a deceased infant was found in a campground pit toilet at the Garnet Lake Campground - right where Jenna...

Every 10 unit rise in annual PM2.5 exposure raising death risk in Indians: Study

Every 10 micrograms per cubic metre of air increase in annual exposure to fine particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5) is associated with an 8.6 per cent increased risk for mortality across India, finds a study on Thursday.  The study, published in the journal Lancet Planetary Health, revealed that long-term exposure to PM2.5 pollution concentrations higher than the 5 micrograms per cubic meter annual average recommended by the WHO is potentially associated with 1.5 million deaths a year in India. The findings showed that the 1.4 billion people in India live in areas with PM2.5 concentrations above that recommended by the WHO guidelines. "High levels of annual PM2.5 exposures are observed in India causing a huge mortality burden (not limited to cities that are highlighted during the extreme poll...

It’s still 2024, but scientists are already confident 2025 will be in top three warmest on record | Science, Climate & Tech News

It is not even Christmas yet: trees are still being decorated, turkeys are yet to be defrosted and Christmas puddings remain intact. But though 2024 is not even out, scientists already have a handle on how hot 2025 will be. Next year's global average temperature is likely to be the third-highest on record - going back to 1850 - after 2024 in the top spot and 2023 in second place, the Met Office said today. This year is on course to be at least 1.5C hotter than pre-industrial times, before humans started burning fossil fuels at scale, and 2023 was 1.45C warmer.Next year is forecast to be at least 1.29°C hotter, but probably closer to 1.4C, bumping 2020 into fourth place. And 2025 is expected to be hot even though the El Nino weather pattern, which had a warming effect on 2023 and 2024, has wa...

Bird flu can infect horses without causing any symptoms, according to new research, raising fears that the virus could be spreading undetected. It's another twist in the emerging threat of the H5N1 virus, widely seen as the most likely cause of the next pandemic. Scientists at the University of Glasgow found antibodies to the virus in blood samples taken from horses living in Mongolia. Their results have been published in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases. Image: The HPAI H5N1 virus. British political stoush over sandwiches

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Conservative party leader Kemi Badenoch are having a public debate about the merit of sandwiches. Photo: AFP A British political stoush has erupted over the "great British institution" of sandwiches. In an interview with Spectator magazine, Conservative party leader Kemi Badenoch suggested sandwiches were not real food. Speaking of taking a lunch break she said: "lunch is for wimps". "I have food brought in and I work and eat at the same time. "Sometimes I will get a steak... I'm not a sandwich person, I don't think sandwiches are a real food, it's what you have for breakfast." Badenoch was particularly against soggy bread. "I will not touch bread if it's moist," she said. In response, a spokesperson for British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starme...
