As schools resume, Mumbai doctors share meal plans for children during monsoon

As Mumbai`s schools begin classes, children and parents are going to get busy with their academics. While it won`t take long for that to pick up pace in the coming months, the monsoon season looms large and so does the many sicknesses that come with it. With monsoon and sickness going hand-in-hand, people often get sick. While adults can manage by themselves, children more often than not get affected because of lower immunity. Couple that with them enduring a busy schedule that not only involves going to school and studying, but also indulging in physical activities like playing sports, nutrition plays an important role in their lives. At such times, Mumbai`s health experts say the need for parents to take care of their child`s health is of the utmost importance. The easiest way to do th...

What I Wish I Knew Before Training With the Garmin Forerunner 265

We may earn a commission from links on this page. Garmin’s Forerunner 265 was the first modern running watch I spent a lot of time with—you can read my review here about how it drew me back into tracking all my run data, for better or for worse. But there are some things that, in hindsight, I wish I had understood better at the start of the journey. Here are the biggest ones that you might like to know about. Why it has so many dang buttonsThe 265 (and other recent Forerunners) seem to have too many buttons. What do we need five of them for, when we’re doing most things from the touchscreen anyway? Garmin’s Vivoactive line gets away with having just two, as do the Coros Pace 3 and Pace Pro, which have all the same main functions as the 265. But as soon as I saw the previous...

What`s causing your headaches? Doctors tell you more

Migraines and chronic headaches aren’t just “in your head” — they’re real, debilitating, and often profoundly misunderstood.  While stress and excessive screen time are commonly blamed, millions suffer due to a wide range of underlying reasons. While there are many misconceptions about it, let’s shift the conversation from stigma to strategy.  Medical dissect migraines to help you identify the type of your headache and aid better management with evidence-based lifestyle modifications. Confirmed! Navjot Singh Sidhu makes a comeback to The Great Indian Kapil show

Brace yourselves — the thoko taali is back and so is Navjot Singh Sidhu! The Great Indian Kapil Show, on Netflix, kicks off its third season on June 21 with a twist audiences didn’t see coming: the original laughter king returns to his rightful place — on the throne, right next to laughter queen Archana Puran Singh! Yes, you read that right. It’s now a two-judge comedy court, and the verdict is unanimous — double the laughter, double the trouble, and definitely double the taaliyaan. Navjot Singh Sidhu is back! Netflix and Kapil promised fans earlier this month that ‘Har Funnyvaar Badhega Humara Parivaar’ and keeping that promise they have made the comedy family bigger by bringing Sidhu Paaji into the fold. Additionally, this time around fans won’t just be in the audience — they’ll be on...

Montreal actor focused on directing but has ideas for ‘White Lotus’ after breakout performance

Since her breakout role in Season 3 of HBO’s hit dramedy White Lotus, acting offers have been pouring in for Charlotte Le Bon. But for now, the Montreal native is just not interested.“Making films is my main focus more than acting, to be honest,” Le Bon said during a sit-down interview in Toronto Thursday.Le Bon recently returned from the Cannes Film Festival, where she held meetings in search of a financing partner for her sophomore feature — a still-untitled Montreal-shot drama exploring themes of loss.“It’s autobiographique,” says the bilingual actor, reluctant to reveal too much.“It’s a very, very personal movie and I think the goal is to try to make a very light-hearted movie on grief. It’s a challenge, but that’s what I’m aiming for.” Story continues below advertisement ...

New AI-powered tool to transform type 1 diabetes diagnosis, treatment

Australian researchers have pioneered a new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tool to assess the risk of developing type 1 diabetes (T1D).  The tool, developed by researchers at Western Sydney University, predicts treatment responses, potentially changing how the disease is diagnosed and managed. The tool utilises an innovative risk score -- Dynamic Risk Score (DRS4C) which can classify individuals as having or not having T1D. It is based on microRNAs -- small RNA molecules measured from blood -- to help accurately capture the changing risk of T1D. "T1D risk prediction is timely, with therapies that can delay T1D progression becoming recognised and available. Since early-onset T1D before the age of 10 years is particularly aggressive and linked to up to 16 years of reduced life expe...

I Changed These Settings to Turn My iPhone Into a ‘Dumbphone’ and I’m Loving Using It Less

Your smartphone has ruined your life. You’re hopelessly addicted to the empty dopamine drip doled out by apps and algorithms that know you better than you know yourself. You recognize this. But also, you’re no hermit: You need to be able to keep in touch with friends and family with phone calls and text messages, just minus the baggage that comes with a modern iPhone or Android. A dumbphone might seem to be the answer to all your problems, but it's probably not. I am often inundated with articles and videos trying to convince me that switching to a dumbphone is the key to living a balance, fruitful life—so much so that I really considered getting one. I still might, someday, but the more I've thought about the matter, I've come to the conclusion that a dumbphone solves a few problems while...

Canada-Europe defence ties can link ‘club of countries,’ says German envoy – National

If Canada decides to buy submarines from Germany, it would mean tightening ties with a “club of countries” in Europe as it looks to meet NATO defence spending goals and face an uncertain world, Germany’s ambassador says. Matthias Lüttenberg, Germany’s ambassador to Canada, sat down with The West Block‘s Mercedes Stephenson in an interview airing on Sunday and emphasized the value of working more closely together.“It’s up to the Canadian government to decide which direction they want to go,” said Lüttenberg.“The state of the art submarine that we are offering jointly with Norway, which is built in Germany, is a very good solution for Canadian security, especially when you look at the Arctic.”European countries are investing billions into their militaries and Prime Minister Mark Carney pledg...

Scientists find gene mutation that links iron deficiency with Crohn’s disease

Biomedical scientists have discovered that a genetic mutation associated with Crohn’s disease can worsen iron deficiency and anemia — one of the most common complications experienced by patients with inflammatory bowel disease, or IBD.  The study led by scientists at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine in the US — performed on serum samples from IBD patients — reported that patients carrying a loss-of-function mutation in the gene PTPN2 (protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor type 2) exhibit significant disruption in blood proteins that regulate iron levels. This mutation is found in 14-16 per cent of the general population and 19-20 per cent of the IBD population. A loss-of-function mutation is a genetic change that reduces or eliminates the normal function of ...
