Texas approves redistricting as California moves to counter with new maps – National

The national redistricting battle enters its next phase Thursday as California Democrats are scheduled to pass a new congressional map that creates five winnable seats for their party, a direct counter to the Texas House’s approval of a new map to create more conservative-leaning seats in that state. California Gov. Gavin Newsom has engineered the high-risk strategy in response to President Donald Trump’s own brinkmanship. Trump pushed Texas Republicans to reopen the legislative maps they passed in 2021 to squeeze out up to five new GOP seats to help the party stave off a midterm defeat. California Gov. Gavin Newsom speaks about the “Election Rigging Response Act” at a press conference at the Democracy Center, Japanese American National Museum on August 14, 2025, in...

Made by Google 2025: All the Biggest Announcements From This Year’s Presentation

Like other big tech events, Made by Google is supposed to be Google's chance to show off its latest hardware to the public. Made by Google 2025, however, didn't really feel like that. Instead, the event focused more on its celebrity roster (host Jimmy Fallon, Alex Cooper, Steph Curry, the Jonas Brothers, etc.) and less on the actual devices and features.Still, the company did formally announce a slate of new devices and showed off some new features here and there. But most of the official announcements came via press releases on Google's blog The Keyword. Between the event and the blogs, here are the biggest announcements you missed: Pixel 10Google's flagship smartphone lineup is official. You have your choice between Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL You'll notice that each has ...

Global warming may worsen world`s well-being by 2.3 per cent by 2100: Study

A continued global warming could bring down the world`s emotional well-being by 2.3 per cent by 2100, according to a study that shows how climate change threatens one`s daily experience and not just health and economic stability. Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, among others in the US, analysed 1.2 billion social media posts of 2019 from 157 countries. Findings published in the journal One Earth show that daily maximum temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius can worsen people`s emotional well-being, with poorer countries impacted disproportionately -- almost thrice -- compared to richer ones. Policymakers cannot truly assess the social costs of climate change or design equitable interventions to protect citizens` physical and psyc...
