I Ranked the Audio Quality of Eight Pairs of Smart Glasses, and It Was Surprisingly Difficult

Take these steps for better search results, including adding my work at Lifehacker as a preferred source.I've tested a lot of smart glasses for Lifehacker, and it's tricky to compare them because the category is all over the place. Some "smart glasses," like Chamelo’s Music Shield, are stylish accessories with built-in speakers; others, like the XReal One Pro, are cutting-edge display glasses packed with tech. So lining them up side by side is like kiwis-to-tangelos.But there is one thing that almost every pair of smart glasses shares: they play sounds. So I decided to focus on just that—how these glasses actually sound—using every pair I own, from $650 XReal...

Students ‘falling through the cracks’, Alberta teachers say on eve of strike

A teachers’ strike is “imminent,” said the union representing Alberta’s educators Sunday, as thousands gathered in Edmonton on the eve of a strike. “Right now, a strike is imminent. We will be on strike tomorrow (Monday). If a deal was to be negotiated, and ideally we would like that, we’d still have to go through our process of member affirmation meetings, voting and so on,” Alberta Teachers Association president Jason Schilling said.It would take “about a week” for teachers to affirm any new deal, Schilling said.He added that the union and the province are “back at the table in an exploratory way right now.”“We’re just letting those talks happen at the table outside of the media eye so that we can try to find a solution to issues that teachers are seeing,” he said. Long Covid patients more likely to suffer from unusual heart rhythm disorder

An unusual heart rhythm disorder, also known as Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), is more common in people with long Covid, according to a study.  The study found that the condition, where the heart beats abnormally fast when changing position from lying down to standing up, is more common in middle-aged women than men. For people affected with POTS, standing up is a challenge. Their hearts beat faster than normal at rest and during exertion. Patients also experience fatigue and difficulties concentrating -- symptoms that are common in long Covid. Researchers at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden found that POTS occurs in almost a third of patients with severe long Covid. "Previous, smaller studies have shown that there is a connection, but now we can say with certainty th...

Tilly Norwood, an AI-generated ‘actor,’ faces Hollywood, celebrity backlash – National

Hollywood is facing a new kind of star power with “AI actor” Tilly Norwood, who doesn’t exist outside of code — and she’s already negotiating with talent agencies. Norwood is a character made entirely by artificial intelligence, dubbed Hollywood’s first “AI actor.” She is the product of a company named Xicoia, which bills itself as the world’s first artificial intelligence talent studio.Since Dutch producer and comedian Eline Van der Velden launched the digital character’s prospective career, Norwood has been the talk of Hollywood.Earlier this month, Van der Velden, founder of the AI production studio Particle6, promoted Norwood at the Zurich Summit, the industry sidebar of the Zurich Film Festival. She said Norwood was in talks with talent agencies and that she expected to announce a sign...

Two Much: Twinkle Khanna reveals her role Roopa in Mela was dubbed by someone

Bollywood actress-turned-author Twinkle Khanna recently revealed a surprising detail about her performance in the 2000 film “Mela” during a candid conversation with Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt on her chat show co-hosted by Kajol, “Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle”.   The actress disclosed that the voice heard in the film for her character Roopa was not her own but was dubbed by someone else. In the conversation, Varun Dhawan shared his fondness for the film, calling it a guilty pleasure. He added, “I love Roopa.” Responding to this, Twinkle Khanna revealed, “It`s not my voice. Oh my god, yes, of course, it`s not my voice, because the makers thought that I was not being dramatic enough, so they got it dubbed by some person who has asthma, and that was it,” she quipped. Her humorous quip a...

You Can Now Send End-to-End Encrypted Emails From Your Business Gmail Account

Did you know you can customize Google to filter out garbage? Take these steps for better search results, including adding my work at Lifehacker as a preferred source.Google doesn't have the best track record when it comes to user privacy, but every once in a while, they do something surprising. Back in April, the company began testing end-to-end encrypted email messaging for enterprise users. On Thursday, it officially rolled out the feature. If you have a Google Workspace through work, you should now be able to send emails protected by E2EE, even if you're sending the email outside of Gmail. That should make it possible to send emails that only you, the recipient, and the IT department that manages your account can access. E2EE is essential for anyone who wants to ensure that their commun...

Ebola virus strain found in semen, breast milk months after infection: Study

US researchers have detected the Sudan Ebola virus strain in semen and breast milk among survivors, about eight months after infection, raising concerns about the potential for sexual and mother-to-child transmission.  Nearly 60 per cent of the survivors of an outbreak in Uganda from 2022-23 reported ongoing and debilitating health issues, even two years post-infection, that interfered with their daily lives, noted researchers at Washington State University. "This is the first time anyone has been able to closely follow Sudan Ebola survivors over the long term, and the results show the virus continues to affect people`s lives well after an outbreak ends," said lead researcher Kariuki Njenga, Professor in the WSU`s College of Veterinary Medicine. "Just as concerning is the fact we detect...

Montrealers honour missing Indigenous women

MONTREAL – Shirley Pien spends a lot of time in Cabot Square, a park in downtown Montreal where many homeless people gather. The woman works as health navigator for an Indigenous-led health clinic in the city and makes it a priority to come to gathering spot on weekly basis. It’s a site many missing Indigenous women she knows used to frequent — until they disappeared.“In the last few months, there’s women we used to see regularly that we don’t see anymore. Nobody knows where they are,” said Pien, who hails from Naskapi Nation in northern Quebec. She was among many that turned out to the march held in Montreal on Saturday in recognition of the overrepresentation of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in the country.“Hopefully one day, people will hear us and start to do something...

World Mental Health Day 2025: Less talk, more action

Mental Health has become an essential aspect of mainstream conversation, among Gen Z especially in recent times. From social media to boardrooms, the subject is spoken about more openly than ever before. Yet, there remains a gap between awareness and action. The conversations are happening, but translating them into everyday lifestyle changes and practical support is still a challenge. Despite openness, there is a lack of access to professional support. Mental health has merely ended up as  a ‘more talk, less action,’ activity. This World Mental Health Day, observed on Friday, October 10, it’s time to change the narrative and make it more about taking action. World Mental Health Day is celebrated annually on October 10. It is celebrated to raise awareness of mental health issues around t...
