Then welcome to the Out of Touch Adults’ Guide to Kid Culture, a guide to what's going down with all the youths out there. Liver fat predicts health risks in children with obesity: Scientists

New research shows that liver fat, rather than bodyweight, is the key factor predicting which children with obesity will develop serious health problems, Israeli scientists announced on Sunday. A study by Tel Aviv University and the Dana Dwek Children`s Hospital in Tel Aviv suggests that obesity in children does not automatically spell poor health. Instead, researchers found that the amount of fat in the liver -- not bodyweight alone -- may be the key factor in predicting whether obese children develop serious illnesses. Fatty liver in children can lead to type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and even liver cirrhosis later in life. The team examined 31 Israeli children with obesity, seeking to understand why some develop metabolic complications while others remai...

Is Alien: Earth 2 in the works? Adarsh Gourav drops major hint

The biggest sign of a show’s success is it being renewed for a second season. Rumours are rife that the creative team of Alien: Earth, the Ridley Scott-backed sci-fi series that premièred on August 12, has begun work on its second edition. Not just that, Adarsh Gourav, who plays Slightly in the show that explores humanity’s encounter with the xenomorph threat in 2120, is expected to reprise his role.    While Gourav is tight-lipped about whether the Noah Crawley-directed series’ next season has been greenlit, he is vocal about his enthusiasm to return to its world. The actor said, “The creators have built such a rich world that as an actor, it’s a privilege to contribute to a story of this scale. I would gladly return for as many future seasons as they’d like me to be part of. Projects li...

Then President-elect Trump had already assured TikTok that his incoming administration would not enforce the ban, as did the outgoing President Biden. As such, once Trump was sworn in, he signed an executive order kicking the TikTok ban down the road. Trump continued to delay enforcing the ban, which, whil...

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) remain the leading cause of disease burden, causing one in three deaths worldwide in 2023, according to a study on Wednesday.  The study showed that the number of cardiovascular disease deaths worldwide has risen sharply, climbing to 19.2 million in 2023 from 13.1 million in 1990. The heart-related mortality was driven by population growth, ageing, and exposure to a broad range of risks, including increasing rates of obesity and diabetes, as revealed by the report based on the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study, and published today in JACC. Ischemic heart disease affected an estimated 240 million people in 2023, while lower extremity peripheral arterial disease impacted 122 million; stroke remained a leading cause of death and disability across all region...

Why You Shouldn’t Use ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ for Your Prime Day Purchases

Did you know you can customize Google to filter out garbage? Take these steps for better search results, including adding my work at Lifehacker as a preferred source. The next Amazon Prime Day—or at least the Prime Day-like fall event known as "Prime Big Deal Days"—will take place Oct. 7–8. As you're checking out all the best deals, you might be tempted by Amazon's "affordable monthly payment system." Also known as "buy now, pay later" (BNPL), its pitch is alluring: Buy what I need now, and pay later, "on your own timeline." But as convenient as it sounds, you should think twice before using buy now, pay later options for Prime Day.While BNPL plans can allow you to pay for purchases in installments without interest, they come with a cost that can easily outweigh any Prime Day discounts.
