FDA Advisors Recommend Against Using MDMA for PTSD Treatment

A panel of experts advising the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voted against adopting MDMA as a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) on Tuesday.Members of the FDA’s Psychopharmacologic Drugs Advisory Committee said that they did not feel there is sufficient evidence to show that the drug is effective in a 9-2 vote. In a 10-1 vote, experts overwhelmingly said that the benefits of MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy or molly, do not outweigh the risks. The panel was tasked with evaluating a proposed treatment developed by Lykos Therapeutics, which involves taking prescribed doses of MDMA under the supervision of clinicians providing psychotherapy to treat patients with moderate to severe PTSD. The FDA does not have to abide by the panel’s guidance, but does take its input ...

Bodrum EDITION review: is this summer 2024’s coolest hotel?

Yalikavak, a kind of Dubai-on-sea, is either a half-hour walk or five minute taxi ride; marvel at the gleaming promenade and rows of designer stores, which are interspersed with more Michelin-starred eateries (and Salt Bae’s famed steakhouse, Nusr-Et). It’s decidedly new money — and heaps of it — worth a visit for a quick gawp alone. For a more mixed bag, head to Bodrum, where tourists, locals and boating types mingle. Stroll along the marina, grab an ice cream (and, if you’re looking to beef up your wardrobe, a seriously high quality designer knockoff), and blag your way onto a superyacht if you can. Source link

Netflix Hierarchy fan reviews: ‘Wasted potential’; colossal disappointment falls far off OG K-drama goodness | Web Series

Netflix's original K-dramas have greatly disappointed viewers of late. As the global streamer continues to churn out a mixed bag of content, predominantly leaning far off the authentic goodness of Korean dramas, netizens are scrutinising the visibly heavy-budgeted production costs put into something they've ultimately slammed as “wasted potential.” All seven episodes of Hierarchy premiered on Netflix on June 7.(Netflix) Hierarchy, supposedly the Korean version of the hit Spanish series ‘Elite,’ was billed as a significantly visually attractive premiere. The series seemingly had it all - the cast, the budget and whatnot. However, the show's unexpected failure was also ultimately attributed to the lack of everything else profoundly essential in building up its foundations. 3.6 Crore...

Xylitol Increases Heart-Health Risks | TIME

Losing weight is one the best ways to lower your risk of heart disease, and cutting back on sugar can contribute to that. But sweeteners that mimic the taste of sugar with fewer—or no—calories could be increasing, rather than decreasing, the risk of some heart events. In a study published Thursday in the European Heart Journal, an international group of researchers led by a team at the Cleveland Clinic report that higher levels of xylitol, a sugar substitute found in candy and even toothpaste, are linked to a higher risk of heart attack, stroke, and death. The study included more than 3,000 people in the U.S. and Europe, about half of whom had a history of heart disease, and almost all of whom had at least a few risk factors for heart disease. They were followed for several years. The resear...

How to Get Back to Sleep After Waking Up at Night

Waking up throughout the night is normal. Most adults do it between two and six times per night—and if you’re a good sleeper, these wakings will be so brief that you likely won’t remember them, says Lynelle Schneeberg, a sleep psychologist and assistant professor of psychiatry at Yale Medicine. But for some people, nighttime wakings are so intrusive that they experience what Schneeberg calls “the download.”“You wake up and think, Why am I awake? How long have I been asleep? How much longer do I have to sleep?” she says. You might start worrying about something that’s been on your mind, whether it’s a big presentation at work or a conflict with a family member. After the download, you’re up.Even people who have no trouble falling asleep can struggle with night wakings. These expert tips wil...

Honey Dijon: ‘Invest London Night Tsar Amy Lamé’s £132k salary into trans healthcare’

Honey Dijon is a DJ on the go — in the 48 hours before we speak, she has played a five-hour set at Berghain, two hours in Ibiza and sat front row at Gucci’s London megashow. ‘I’m a bit knackered, but I’m fine,’ says the Chicago-born, 55-year-old trans musician and producer, who is beloved by a unique cross section of the queer community, the fashion industry, ravers, Beyoncé and Madonna. Last year she moved to London, leaving behind New York and Berlin, and today speaks from her sitting room, which is still full of unpacked boxes. ‘London nightlife makes me very sad in a lot of ways. Just like New York, there used to be so many clubs but now gentrification and all these laws are stripping away club culture,’ she says. ‘Most young people now only experience dance music at festivals — that’s...
