CANNES — Along the sun-drenched Boulevard de la Croisette, festival president Iris Knobloch and artistic director Thierry Frémaux held an international press conference this morning to reveal the historic slate for the upcoming 80th anniversary edition of the Cannes Film Festival. The retrospective features world-premiere 4K and 70mm restorations of landmark Palme d’Or winners alongside thirty-eight competitive features spanning six continents.

Global Cinema Beyond Borders

This year’s official selection highlights extraordinary diversity, with over 45% of in-competition titles helmed by women and indigenous filmmakers. Premieres from emerging directors in Dakar, Seoul, Guadalajara, and Bucharest will screen inside the Grand Théâtre Lumière, underscoring the festival’s enduring role as the premiere international summit for visionary world cinema.

“Cinema is an irreplaceable bridge between cultures. In a divided world, the darkened auditorium remains a sanctuary where people of every language share laughter, tears, and profound collective truth.”— Thierry Frémaux, General Delegate, Festival de Cannes

Restoration Village on the Plage Macé

In addition to the red-carpet premieres, the festival announced an open-air beachfront cinema village offering free nightly screenings of classics restored using photochemical preservation techniques. Film archivists from the Cinémathèque Française and the Martin Scorsese Film Foundation will conduct public masterclasses throughout the twelve-day celebration.
